A year earlier, during Operation MARKET-GARDEN, the allies had suffered heavy casualties trying to seize a bridge across the Rhine to strike into German and end the war now a bridge fell into their hands! American 9 th Armored Division troops, tanks and anti-aircraft batteries-surge across and take-up positions along the far bank awaiting the inevitable German counter-attack. By a fortune of war, on March 7th, the American Army has captured the Ludendorff Bridge at Remagen bridge across the mighty Rhine river leading into the heart of Germany when explosives failed to bring it down.
